My new Life.. Starting Now

I recently started jogging ,(yi-epee!) Well it was not easy and it is still not easy but I have to do it. why? Well one I am over weight. Two I have history of diabetes in my family. And three I am just damn lazy. Yes Lazy , I hate to admitting this but I would rather sit in the house and watch movies all day than go out and socialize or even do something useful.
Like every other addict , I have a routine. I Love watching TV in a dark room, hence my hate for drawing the curtains in the morning. Pick my duvet wrap myself up in the sitting room on the big seat with a cup of chocolate or a bag of crisps. With the right series I can stay up till late in the night or early in the morning. The only excercise I do is walk to the fridge or to the washroom. Its a pity someone hasn’t invented a moving seat or an all in one kind of chair.
Obviously waking up in the morning is a problem because of sleeping late or being to tired because of all the junk food i ate before falling asleep. I have set three alarms and I still manage to get late. I have to take coffee – three cups , two in the morning and one in the afternoon to stay awake. It has reached a point where I can not function properly in the morning without it , it has become a life-line a sweet / bitter life-line. Recent study shows that coffee can reduce the chances of Alzheimer or dementia it can also reduce the chances of getting gout. Yes, I stumbled upon this and it increased my liking for the drug. The only thing about coffee that I do not like is that I always seem to have a full bladder and my relationship with the washroom is to tight.
Now what was I talking about? Oh yea being Lazy. I was not born lazy , in fact my mother keeps reminding me of how useful I was when I was young. She would never complain about me lazing around and doing nothing in fact she would complain that I was always moving up and down. She once threatened to change my name to “nyagothie” ( someone that walks ).
I developed the habit of procrastination when I was in campus, it all started with me leaving things for tomorrow.I will clean the dishes tomorrow, I will finish that assignment tomorrow and so on. I started forgetting things , small things like hitting the send button to a text or what I was doing or talking about. My body had become lazy and in turn my mind was getting lazy. It became a task to hold a conversation for more than 5 mins – my excuse? I have the memory of an educated gold fish.
Being lazy eats you up slowly by slowly, it eats up your friendships , your job and finally your esteem. How? People start avoiding you because they can not have a meaning full conversation with you or you do not want to go out and have fun or do anything.
It affects your job because you are always tired and forgetful.I remember a time I walked in the office half asleep and so tired. I was in a bad mood the entire day and I did not want to work at all. All I wanted to do was just go home and fall asleep , this affected my performance for the day and the week. I started pushing things I was to do that day for the next day – it totally ruined the dynamic of my week and my boss was on my case.
I had not noticed that it was affecting my esteem , until it dawned on me that I had lost focus of my life and things I loved doing I was ashamed to do. I loved discussing issues with people and I could do math equations with ease. I noticed that doing a simple Sudoku or solving a mathematical problem was an issue. My mind felt like it had a log and it was heavy, I walked around with a cloud in my mind and things were never clear to me. I became withdrawn and silent. I kept to myself and avoided people for the longest time. This was extra hard for me because am a sanguine, a peoples person.  Deep down I knew that all this was wrong and I should do something, but then again – it was never that serious.
Being lazy is something that you know deep within but still ignore, I went through  the entire circle of denial , anger , depression and finally acceptance. For weeks I was depressed and angry at the world. I did not like the person I had become and to be honest I did not recognize myself at all.
My break through was sometime last month. I walked into my house and it was in a mess, dirty cloths and dishes every where , dust accumulating on every surface and the smell. Oh Jesus! it was enough to suffocate anyone. That is when I realized that I needed to get my life in order and change a few things. First things first clean my house and make a plan for my life. I had not noticed that my laziness or rather lack of care for my life had also affected my eating habits.  I had started to eat more, not healthy foods but junk food, I added a lot of weight in a span of few weeks. This in turn affected my mobility and I was always tired and short of breath.
I am developing a habit of doing what I am supposed to do when I am supposed to do it regardless of how tired I might be. I do not procrastinate small things like the dishes or finishing an assignment, I soon learnt that if I push anything for tomorrow the task doubles and in turn it interferes with tomorrows plans.
I started jogging so as to excercise my body and burn the extra fat, and in turn my brain became active, the cloud disappeared one day at a time. Its hard to just wake up and start running especially when you are used to seating around and doing nothing. I had to have an incentive so I went shopping. I went and bought some sport shoes and track suit , it cost me an arm and a leg but it was worth it. Every time I think about not running I remember the outfit I bought and how much it costs. I also asked a friend of mine to help me excercise and keep tabs on me.
So you can not afford to lazy around with “I don’t care attitude”. You have to find a niche for yourself, something that makes you stand out from the rest. But first get off your lazy ass and do something about the dirty dishes in your life. Get ride or trash – Read : people and things that waste your time.
Form a habit that will help you mold your life and future to what you want it to be, and stick to it.
